Between 2019-2022, we cooperated with one of Warsaw’s law firms, linguistically supporting our client during the ongoing arbitration proceedings. The project entrusted to us included standard and certified translations of procedural documentation from Polish into English. We translated mainly pleadings, expert opinions on technical issues, court orders, legal opinions, plaintiff’s and defendant’s letters, evidentiary analyses and others.

Partnership approach
Before starting the project, together with the client we defined expectations and developed appropriate processes. The main priorities were the terminological consistency of the translation, the correctness of the technical documentation on which the case was based and the confidentiality of the provided materials.
Consistency of terminology
Given the nature of the case, maintaining consistency of translated terms was the key to ensuring that all the parties to the proceedings properly understand the translated material.
Substantive correctness
Substantive correctness – the project involved translations in the fields of law, construction and geology. Such difficult and specialized subject matter required the involvement of appropriate technical translators who not only had linguistic skills but were also specialists in the field.
Confidentiality
All documents entrusted to Lacrosse were treated as confidential material. Lacrosse staff, the translators and other people involved in the project signed confidentiality undertakings. Working in a secure online environment ensured the protection of documents that were not sent to translators by e-mail.
Our solutions:
The project team consisted of legal translators, to whom documents, pleadings etc. went, and technical translators, who translated expert opinions on construction and geology.
The next step was the creation and ongoing updating of translation memories, so that both translators working on legal and technical texts used the same database of terms preferred and accepted by the client.
The project was constantly supervised by the Translation Resources Coordinator, who ensures that translation memories were updated, terms were added to terminology databases and that translations were linguistically corrected on an ongoing basis.
Benefits of our collaboration
Through proper management of translation resources and verification of each batch of translations, we ensured stylistic and terminological consistency of all documents translated as part of a case. Lawyers, already having confidence in the quality of our work, spent less time fine-tuning the translated materials used before the court.
The dynamics of the case required translations in both normal and express modes. We translated one batch of documents comprising approximately 800 billing pages in 12 working days. Thanks to the use of CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools, we could ensured the translation of large volumes of text in a short space of time, allowing our clients to meet pressing deadlines.
